Tusker left back Levin Odhiambo has pledged to use the experience gained in Sweden to help the beer makers reclaim the league title they lost to Gor Mahia last season.
Tusker missed the defender for the better part of the pre-season as he spent weeks in Sweden, where he tried his luck with second-tier sides Vasalund IF and Vasteras SK.
However, he opted to return to Ruaraka rather than pen a deal with either of the interested clubs as the second-tier season in Sweden is nearing its tail end.
Odhiambo revealed that he excelled in the trials but elected to return to Tusker and wait for the January window so as to start a fresh season with the club that he will agree terms with.
“I trained with each club for two and a half weeks. I had the option of signing the contract but would remain out of competitive football for the remainder of the year. The option to return home and play competitive football and wait for the next transfer window in Europe was the best choice for me,” he said.
The former Kayole Youth player went on to narrate what transpired in Sweden and what it meant to train with the two clubs that have signed Kenyan players before.
“The two clubs requested to assess me and see if they could acquire my services at the end of the season. Of course, I left with the blessings of Tusker. It was a good experience in Sweden. We wait and see what happens in January," he added.
Odhiambo, who came off the bench last week to help Tusker salvage a point against Kariobangi Sharks as his cross was deflected to the back of the net, said he had hit a new high courtesy of the weeks he spent in Sweden.
The former Wazito defender claimed that the training sessions he had with the two clubs helped him improve on his weaknesses.
Odhiambo is yet to make a start this season, as coach Robert Matano has been preferring Boniface Onyango for first-team duties.
Tusker kicked off the season with a 1-0 win over Bandari and went on to come from a goal down to hold Sharks to a 1-1 draw.
“You will see a different player for the period I will be around. I worked with top tacticians who helped me polish my game,” he stated.
Odhiambo joined Tusker in February from Mathare United.
He was named the man of the match in the semifinal of the Mozzart Bet Cup duel against Ulinzi Stars.
