Games against Atalanta, Roma and Juventus will determine Conte's future
This weekend marks the beginning of two passionate weeks for Napoli, considering that they face Atalanta, Roma, and Juventus in Serie A. These three matches will be a turning point for Antonio Conte: either he will wake the team up, or everything will sink. During the break, Frank Anguissa was added to the list of injured players, but Romelu Lukaku has accelerated his return and, if everything goes according to plan, will be available for the match against Roma at the end of November at the Maradona stadium.
The Belgian is fundamentally important to Conte’s game, especially after Kevin De Bruyne’s injury and the return to the 4-3-3 formation. Napoli’s strikers haven’t scored in more than a month and a half; the last one was Hojlund’s goal against Genoa. Since then, the few goals the Azzurri have scored have come from midfielders and defenders, primarily Anguissa and McTominay. Last season, Lukaku transformed into a complete team player, as shown by the fact that he registered an equal number of goals and assists. De Bruyne’s severe injury also allows Napoli to register him for the Champions League squad list, meaning Big Rom will be in a position to help his team reach the play-offs.
It’s true that Napoli haven’t lost a home match in 2025, but Atalanta inflicted one of the heaviest defeats on the Azzurri at their stadium last autumn (0–3). In fact, it’s one of the two matches Conte has lost in Naples since taking over the team. Also, Atalanta are a big unknown, as Raffaele Palladino will be making his debut on the Goddesses’s bench, and the rule is that teams in crisis often give more than they realistically can in their first match with a new coach. In Atalanta’s case, that possibility is even stronger, given that La Dea have a very powerful squad. Plus, Gianluca Scamacca is returning to the starting lineup.
