Defender is ready to leave the club if the board does not meet his demands – Real Madrid and PSG are lurking around the corner

Bayern Munich defender Dayot Upamecano has reportedly issued a final ultimatum to the club regarding his contract extension. The French international is entering the final six months of his deal and has made it clear that European giants Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are ready to meet his financial requests if the Bundesliga leaders fail to match his expectations before January.

The situation between Bayern and their key centre-back has now reached a decisive point. As per Kicker, Upamecano’s representatives have informed the Bavarian board that talks are essentially over unless the club agrees to their financial conditions. Although the 27-year-old’s current contract runs until June 2026, he can formally negotiate with foreign clubs from January 1, putting Bayern under intense time pressure to resolve the matter before options slip out of their hands.

Under Vincent Kompany, Upamecano has been one of the team’s most reliable performers this season, appearing in 20 matches in all competitions. Still, his camp has grown increasingly dissatisfied with Bayern’s slow approach and their unwillingness to stretch the wage structure.

Both Kicker and Sport Bild report that the defender is seeking an annual salary of 16 million euros, bonuses included, as well as specific release clauses to give him greater control over potential future moves. Bayern, guided by sporting director Max Eberl, are trying to rein in spending, making them reluctant to agree to what the club views as “non-negotiable” conditions — even though they rate Upamecano’s renewal as a major priority. His representatives, however, argue that the player’s consistency and market standing justify such demands.

This ultimatum places significant strain on Eberl and the Bayern leadership. If the club refuses the 16 milion euros package, Upamecano is prepared to let his contract run down. Allowing a player valued at around 60 million euros to leave as a free agent would be a major setback, reminiscent of David Alaba’s departure to Real Madrid.

To complicate matters further, the interest from Europe’s financial powerhouses is very real. According to the report, both Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are ready to fully satisfy Upamecano’s demands. For Madrid, he is seen as an ideal long-term successor to the aging duo of Alaba and Antonio Rudiger — and a potential free transfer aligns perfectly with Florentino Pérez’s current recruitment strategy.

PSG, on the other hand, are eager to lure the French centre-back back home. They view him as a central piece of their defence moving forward and possess the financial strength to offer a signing bonus that Bayern may struggle to rival. With such strong suitors already circling, Upamecano’s ultimatum carries real weight — he has clear exit pathways should Bayern fail to respond.
