Kariobangi Sharks made good their threat of not honouring the game that was set to be played at the Nyayo National Stadium

AFC Leopards have been handed a walkover after Kariobangi Sharks failed to show up at the Nyayo National Stadium for the Saturday league match between the two sides that was set to kick off at 3 PM EAT.

On Friday morning, Sharks released a statement confirming that they will not be honoring the match against Ingwe scheduled for Nyayo Stadium. They did not divulge much on their reasons to issue the first walkover in their six-year top-flight history.

Sharks’ announcement came shortly after Sports CS Amina Mohammed had gazetted the FKF Transition Committee to oversee the running of football activities for the next five weeks. The committee consists of members from the caretaker committee whose six-month terms came to an end on Tuesday. The decision has elicited mixed reactions and a case challenging the legality of the CS move has already been filed at the High Court.

Leopards however refused to buy into Sharks’ announcement and focused on preparations for the duel with three points at stake for both teams. Ingwe's assistant coach Tom Juma insisted that the game was on and that they would show up at Nyayo Stadium for the duel.

“We are preparing for the match and it's upon our opponents to decide whether or not they'll turn out for the fixture. As far as we are concerned, the match is still on,” he had told the Star earlier.

On Saturday, Leopards players walked down the tunnel with their Sharks counterparts nowhere to be seen and the match officials led the walkover rituals before the teams left the pitch.
