Montreal gave up a two goal advantage to draw 2-2 as Vasalunds lost 0-1

Kenyan internationals Victor Wanyama and Anthony Wambani were in action for their teams CF Montreal and Vasalunds respectively in league matches played on Wednesday evening and Thursday morning. Wambani’s team went down in defeat while Wanyama endured double tragedy as he was sent off with his team also letting go of a two-goal advantage. Here is a wrap of how events unfolded.

Victor Wanyama

Named as the captain on the night yet again, the Harambee Stars player turned villain as he was sent off with eight minutes left on the clock for a needless hand on the throat challenge with Atlanta United’s Joseph Martinez, the referee sending off both players for that altercation in the match that ended in a 2-2 draw at the Saputo Stadium.

After a drab first half that did not produce any goal, Mason Toye opened the scoring for Montreal in the 53rd minute with a low drive past the goalkeeper. Ten minutes later, in the 63rd minute, Rudy Camacho positioned himself in the right place as he scored the second goal after being picked out from a corner.

Stung into action, Josef Martinez pulled one back for Atlanta just two minutes after Montreal’s second. Marcelino Moreno restored parity in the game after Atlanta were awarded a penalty, the forward successfully converting in the 76th minute.

Anthony Wambani

Despite featuring for the full length of the game, the Kenyan defender was not able to prevent his side from going down to a 1-0 defeat against Helsingborg in a Swedish second-tier football match played at Skytteholms IP on Wednesday evening.

A 55th minute strike from Rasmus Karjalainen was what separated the two sides by the time the referee blew his full time whistle. With the loss, Vasalund find themselves languishing in the relegation territory as they sit second bottom on 13 points.
