Ochieng guided Ulinzi to a generally solid performance this season, finishing second in the league with Kenya Police Bullets once again claiming the title.
Having given the law enforcers a run for their money this season, Ochieng is now eyeing glory as expressed in an interview with Mozzart Sport.
“We will definitely be going for the title next season. We came so close this season and for us to count any improvement next season, it has to be to win the league,” said Ochieng.
“Next season, we will have all our players who joined the military back to the team and therefore we will have no excuses for failing to win the league,” he added.
Some of the key players that the team lost to military training this season include Harambee Starlets defensive midfielder Lavender Akinyi, Cindy Ngaira, Joy Kinglady, Mary Ojenge, Tabitha Amoit and goalkeeper Phiona Ariko.
While Ochieng was happy for the six players who secured slots with the military, their absence from early this season meant a shift of priority for Ulinzi.
“This season, our main goal was to steady the ship. In fact, many people did not believe we would have the performance that we just had. They knew we would struggle but we believed in ourselves,” stated Ochieng.
Additionally, Ochieng is banking on the lessons learned from this season to motivate his troops to the title.
“This season was all about laying a firm foundation and I believe we did that. With the addition of the recruits and the experience gained, we will have what it takes to win the league.”
Should they manage to win the league, they will halt what has been a dominant three seasons by Police Bullets who have won three consecutive league titles in their three seasons in the top flight.
