Aisha Nasser Baksh will fly the Kenyan flag in the Commonwealth Games after sealing the sole ticket reserved for the women's triathlon team.

The qualifiers held at the Kilifi’s Bofa Beach and Bofa Road saw the elite women category compete for the slot last Sunday with a 750m swim, followed by a 20km bike ride and finally a 5km run on Bofa Road for the Sprint Distance Triathlon.

The event organized by the Kenya Triathlon Federation and sponsored by the National Olympic Committee of Kenya saw athletes from Nairobi and Mombasa fight it out for a slot at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games later in July this year.

The raspy weather currently being experienced in the Coast Region could not stop Baksh from booking her ticket to the games in a time of 01:21:54, followed closely by Vivian Hillier from Mombasa with a personal best time of 01:23.06.

Megan Irungu completed the podium list by finishing third in a time of 01:32:06. Alishat Khadija Nasser, Aisha’s younger sister finished fourth in 01:45:23

Winning today and actually making it to go and represent Kenya, is actually a dream come true. I have never traveled to represent my country. This is a debut I will be making, on a global stage.” she said.

Hillier who is part of NOC-K’s youth program for the 2026 Youth Olympic Games will also be joining the camp to assist Aisha in training.

"The qualifiers were a success despite the challenges that we had in the earlier qualifiers. The support Kenya Triathlon has received from NOC-K has been encouraging especially since this is the third time we’re having the triathlon women trials,” said Salonik Ole Koyiet, the Kenya Triathlon Federation Secretary-General.

NOC-K treasurer Eliud Kariuki applauded the young triathletes for their resilience and efforts during the qualifiers and encouraged them to keep training hard in preparation for the upcoming games and a busy sports calendar in 2023.
