Kenya’s basketball boys’ 5x5 champions, Laiser Hill, posted a winning start to the 2025 FEASSSA Games following a commanding 51-32 victory over Tanzania’s Juhudi Secondary School.

The defending Kenyan champions, who were last year’s FEASSSA finalists, showed their strength early but still see room for improvement.

“I’m glad we won the first match; however, we need to work on our shooting and passing,” said head coach Eric Mutoro. “We hope to keep this pace and the good results throughout the tournament as we go for the trophy.”

Elsewhere in boys’ basketball 5x5, Lukenya School (Kenya) edged Uganda’s St. Cyprian 54-49 in a tense encounter.

Girls' 5x5 basketball

In the girls’ category, ESB Kamonyi (Rwanda) defeated Kenya’s St. Joseph’s Girls 53–41, while Kibuli Secondary School (Uganda) narrowly beat Tanzania’s Juhudi 26–24.

Girls basketball 3x3

In girls basketball 3x3, Kenya’s Ng’iya Girls beat St. Mary’s Kisubi (Uganda) 17–12, while Buruburu Girls cruised past Rwanda’s G.S Gahini 19–9.

Tigoi Girls thrashed Tanzania’s Juhudi 17–4, but Asumbi Girls fell 11–10 to Uganda’s Buddo.

Boys' basketball 3x3

In boys’ 3x3, Pioneer (Kenya) beat Amus College (Uganda) 15–12, Sigalame thumped Uganda’s St. Cyprian 21–8, and St. Joseph’s (Kenya) overwhelmed Juhudi (Tanzania) 21–2. Uganda’s Buddo edged Kenya’s St. Mary’s Yala 17–15.

Boys' handball

In handball, Highway (Kenya) saw off Kigoma (Rwanda) 30–21, while Bombo Army Secondary (Uganda) defeated Kimondo (Tanzania) 30–23 in boys’ Pool A action. Kamito (Kenya) shared spoils with Mbogo (Uganda) in a 28–28 thriller.

Boy’s Pool B action included Adegi (Rwanda) defeating Ivory Coast 37–23, Manyatta (Kenya) beating Gombe (Uganda) 29–23, and Kimilili (Kenya) edging Wampewe (Uganda) 28–25.

Girls' handball

In girl’s Pool A, St. Joseph’s Kitale beat Kibuli (Uganda) 33–25, while Kawanda (Uganda) overcame Dagoretti (Kenya) 35–20.

Pool B saw Mbogo (Uganda) edge Kadika (Kenya) 32–28, Gombe (Uganda) overpower Maweni (Tanzania) 46–19, and Moi Girls Kamusinga beat Nyamgabe (Rwanda) 27–16.

Boys’ volleyball

In boys’ volleyball Pool A, St. Luc (Uganda) beat Mwaluphamba (Kenya) 3–1, P.S.V F won 3–1 against Thumbi, as Bukedea swept Stahiza 3–0.

Pool B saw St. Jerome beat Gogo 3–1, Cheptil down St. Peter’s Mumias 3–0, and Namugongo beat St. Philip 3–0.

Girls' volleyball

In girls’ volleyball, defending champions Kesogon (Kenya) opened with a flawless 3–0 win over Tororo (Uganda).

Pool A action had Soweto beating Amus College (Uganda) 3–1, Kamonyi (Rwanda) defeating Katikamu (Uganda) 3–0, and Kwanthanze (Kenya) sweeping Kajujumele 3–0.

Pool B saw Sulumeti beat Mwitoti 3–0, Bukedea defeat St. Aloise 3–0, and Kesogon overpower Tororo without dropping a set.
