Michael Karanga headlines the championship's ranking with a comfortable 241 points lead ahead of John Lejirma

Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) action heads to the par 72 Nyeri Golf Club’s Course, which is hosting the 71st edition of the Mt. Kenya Championship.

The event has historically been held every first weekend of February, however, this year it could not be held due to unfavorable dry course condition which resulted to its postponement.

Captain Jacob Nyaga has confirmed that the course is currently in great shape to host the elite amateurs.

Action for this KAGC and WAGR ranking event is set for three days of 18 holes each starting from Friday 7 July 2023.

A full field of 78 golfers will be battling out for the prestigious title and a cash prize of Ksh 400,000 sponsored jointly by NCBA Bank and Communications Authority of Kenya.

All entrants will play in the first two rounds after which the top 36 and ties will make cut to the final round on Sunday.

Defending champion Chris Andrea from Ruiru Sports Club is expecting a tough battle from Elvis Muigua OF Kiambu Golf Club who won the Gold Fields Trophy at Kakamega Sports Club last weekend.

Other notables include Adel Balala from Vipingo Ridge, and Ruiru Open champion and Team Kenya captain Dennis Maara from Limuru Country Club.

Last weekend in Kakamega, Muigua carded a total of six over par 222 in the three rounds at the par 72 course to take top honours ahead of Nandi Bears’ Elly Barno and Godfrey Nsubuga who finished six shots behind the stellar performance of Muigua
