The national boxing league is scheduled for later in September

As part of their preparations for a busy boxing calendar that includes five national league legs that begin in September, the Boxing Federation of Kenya (BFK) is fielding two teams at an East Africa Club Championships in Dar es Tanzania.

Boxers drawn from the national league champions Kenya Police and a national select teams make a 24-players squad already in Tanzania for the four-day event that begins on Wednesday 9 February through to Saturday 12 February.

The national select team is being coached by Benjamin Musa while the Police side is under the tutelage of national team assistant coach David Munuhe.

"This event was not in our calender. We received an invitation fro clubs to the event but we elected to have the national team participating too as part of their preparations for a busy season ahead. We have many international competitions between now and September and since the league does not begin until later in the year, this is a good place to begin preparing our teams for the tasks ahead," said one of the officials travelling with the squad.

With four international championships set for between April and August including the Global Boxing Cup in Russia, IBA Women's World Boxing Championship set for Turkey in May, the International Boxing Cup in June and the Commonwealth Games that will run between July and August local action will resume on 26 and 27 as all counties come together for the International Boxing Day competitions in Nairobi.
