KPBC contemplating legal action against Mandonga Mtu Kazi

KPBC maintains that their April 1 rematch pitting Tanzanian boxer Karim "Mtu Kazi" Mandonga against Daniel Wanyonyi is still on despite the latter signing a deal to fight Ugandan boxer Kenneth Lukyamuzi on March 25 in Nairobi

The Kenya Professional Boxing Commission (KPBC) on Tuesday morning initiated talks aimed at ‘taking the best possible action’ against Tanzanian boxer Karim ‘Mtu Kazi’ Mandonga after he recently got into an agreement to fight in a separate fight on March 25 - one that goes against the contract he signed for an April 1 fight in Nairobi.

Shortly after Mandonga saw off his opponent Daniel Wanyonyi in the sixth round of the January 17 fight earlier this year, both parties, as per KPBC, agreed to a contract term that would see the two boxers face off in a rematch fight on April 1 at KICC, Nairobi.

A few weeks later on March 10, a report from The Citizen reported that Mandonga had secured a different fight - one against Ugandan boxer Keneth Lukyamuzi set for March 25 in Nairobi, that KPBC denied awareness about.

With the fight details now on and posters out on social media, Mozzart Sport understands that KPBC is contemplating taking necessary steps against Mandonga for having gone against one of the contracts terms that barred any boxer in the card from taking part in a different fight within 40 days of the scheduled fight date.

“Our meeting today will be about the next steps we need to take as a professional body because this paints a bad image on us,” KPBC Secretary General Frankline Imbenzi said on Tuesday. “We will have a meeting with officials and lawyers to figure the way out but a few options are already on the table. One of them would be to stop the March 25 fight.”

Among the boxers scheduled to fight in the April 1 card include Fatuma Zarika- set for a title fight- and renowned Kenyan boxer Raymond Ochieng.

Mandonga’s March 25 fight as per the posters online, will be live to viewers on DStv from 2100 EAT in the event dubbed ‘Nairobi Fight Night Rumble.’
