The side faces off with Eldonets in their next match.
Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) men’s league side Kisumu Lakeside posted mixed results in their first away trip to Nairobi this year but skipper Sila Awuor remains confident they will be in this season’s playoffs.
With the top eight teams set to get the chance to feature in the playoffs, Lakeside find themselves just at the edge, in eighth place with 21 points from 17 matches.
Sila, however, believes their 52-32 victory against Zetech Titans is a big boost to their season’s ambitions for another playoff slot. Lakeside’s other weekend match ended in a 64-52 in favour of Kenyatta University (K.U) Lakeside.
“We got our fourth win of the season, a crucial victory for the team. Titans denied us two points at home so we had to fight to get this win. Right now, we are fighting for a playoff slot against teams like Umoja and Eldonets so we are not out pf the woods yet. We have to get at the very least two wins at home to secure the slot,” Sila offered.
The Kisumu-based side will be back in action on Saturday 18 February where they take on Eldonets, both sides determined to win the match to improve their chances of finishing in the top eight at the end of the regular league.
“In our first outing of the year, it was evident that we need to work on our outside shooting. We relied more on layups and foul-shots and that made it easy for the opponent as they just had to stick in the paint and contain us.
As we head to the next match, a crucial home game that we intent to win, we have to adjust as the fixture carries a lot of weight,” he added.
Sila adds that the December break has helped the side move from a team that is trying to win games to a squad that wants to win which is a positive mindset that is likely to propel them to greater heights, but admits they are still faced with many challenges.
“The team’s organization was adversely affected by the change in management at the beginning of the season. We are yet to recover from that transition. It has also been a tough task to get a training venue as Manyatta Arabs and the Kisumu Sports Grounds have been closed. We still do not have a home court and are not sure what our fate is,” he explained.
