The appointment comes at a critical time for the fast-rising Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) Women’s Premier League side, who will be looking to gain media visibility and attract potential financiers.

Wesonga, a multimedia journalist and sports development advocate, takes up the role with the responsibility of steering the club’s corporate engagement and sponsorship efforts.

His appointment is part of the club’s broader strategic agenda to strengthen its partnerships and raise funds for key projects, including the acquisition of a team bus.

The club’s President, Desmond Boi, was excited about Wesonga’s appointment, noting that it would be a boost in their upcoming events.

“Wesonga brings a wealth of experience in media, stakeholder relations, and sports promotion. His leadership will be instrumental in the success of our upcoming events and the long-term growth of Twinkle Hockey Club,” Boi said in an official statement.

Twinkle Hockey Club, formed in 2023, has quickly established itself as a formidable side in Kenyan women’s hockey.

After just two seasons in the Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) Super League, the team secured promotion to the Premier League at the end of the 2024 season, finishing second behind Kisumu Queens. They are now competing in the 2025 KHU Women’s Premier League, marking a historic milestone for the club.

Wesonga’s first major assignments include leading sponsorship efforts for two flagship events: the Twinkle Gala Dinner, a fundraiser to help the club acquire a team bus, and the Annual International Nyota Hockey Festival, which serves as both a competitive Hockey festival and a breast and prostate cancer awareness campaign.

Speaking on his appointment, Wesonga expressed his enthusiasm for the role.

“I’m honoured to join Twinkle Hockey Club at such an exciting time. This role allows me to blend my passion for sports development with my experience in stakeholder engagement.

I look forward to working with the club’s leadership to build meaningful partnerships and elevate the club’s impact on and off the pitch,” the former hockey player-cum-journalist said.

The club is set to host a media dinner in the coming weeks to officially launch the Gala Dinner and the Nyota Festival.

Journalists and sports stakeholders are expected to attend, as the club continues to build momentum ahead of a promising season in the top flight.
