The wardresses face KCB in the first leg with the match likely to determine the best side at the end of the regular season

Defending champions Prisons Kenya are looking to defend the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) women's league title and to ensure depth is guaranteed, coach Josp Barasa has acquired the signatures of three youngsters, fresh from school.

Kesogon alumni Mackline Okoko joins Barasa's setting department where she will view for a starting berth against national team setter Joy Lusenaka and Helima Kipyegon.

Also joining the back-to-back champions is Kwanthanze duo of Naomi Nekesa and Rebecca Mwendwa in left and right attack respectively.

"We have trained with the trio since getting back on the court in September and they are very promising players and have been impressive so far. They have had enough time to gel with the rest of the squad and also learn from their more experienced teammates and I expect them to do well when called upon," said Barasa.

Nekesa and Mwendwa will be up against the experience of Olympians Meldine Sande and the team's skipper Brackcides Agala who can play both in left and as a middle blocker as well as Yvonne Wavinya who has been impressive for both club and the beach national team.

The youngsters also have their work cut out as they will need to do better if they are to unseat the experienced Lydia Maiyo whose calmness and wit on the court has repeatedly helped the wardresses win matches. Also in the mix is Olympian Emmaculate Chemtai who has cemented herself as a favourite for the club.

"The advantage of having the three fighting for position with such experienced players is they get to learn from the best and get better in their craft fast," added the tactician.

Action throws off on Friday 26 November with the first leg in Kapsabet where the wardresses are set to face Nairobi Prisons before taking on nemesis KCB.

"We start with a tricky fixture against our sister team from Nairobi who have improved tremendously over the seasons before facing a tough test against the bankers. We have prepared for the test. I am aware it will not be a walk in the park but I have full confidence in my squad," Barasa offered.
