The decision confirms Kamusinga as Western champions following their dramatic victory over Musingu in the regional final in Vihiga County, a match that had already drawn attention due to its intensity, stoppages, and post-match disputes.

Musingu High School had formally lodged an appeal contesting the eligibility of a Kamusinga player, Brian Musee Kipkorir, citing alleged violations of the KSSSA transfer regulations.

In their submission, Musingu argued that the player had not officially cleared from their institution and that the mandatory 90-day transfer rule had not been observed, rendering him ineligible for the final.

However, after review, the Western Region appeals committee dismissed the case, effectively upholding the result and confirming Kamusinga as the official regional champions.

The ruling brings closure to a dispute that had cast uncertainty over Western’s representative in the boys’ hockey category ahead of the national games in Kisumu.

Kamusinga secured their regional title after a tense final against defending national champions Musingu, which ended 1-1 in regulation time before being decided via post-match shootouts.

Kamusinga prevailed 3-1 in the shootout, dethroning Musingu and ending their reign at the regional level.

The match itself was marked by prolonged stoppages and crowd disturbances, stretching over three hours and setting the stage for the post-match appeal that followed.

With the appeal now resolved, Kamusinga turn their focus to the nationals, where they return for the first time since 2022.

Their last appearance saw them reach the final, where they finished as runners-up after losing to St Anthony’s Kitale.

Historically, Kamusinga remains one of the most successful hockey schools in the country, holding a record 12 national titles, with their last championship triumph coming in 2016.

Their qualification this year signals a resurgence for a program with deep roots in Kenyan school hockey. Having overcome both on-field challenges and off-field scrutiny, Kamusinga now heads to Kisumu with renewed momentum.
