Second edition of Africa Beach Games officially opened in Tunisia

The second edition of the Africa Beach Games was officially opened on Friday night in a simple yet elaborate ceremony at the Hammamet City Theatre in Tunisia.

The ceremony was an artistic fusion of African music and culture, with guests entertained by heartwarming performances.

From revered Hammaet based musician Lotfi Bouchnek to the Alan Zrafi Dance Academy team which brought the house down with their new school dance routines, the ceremony was a proper indicator of what to expect for the next one week.

Team Kenya’s flag bearers at the opening ceremony were sprint rower Diana Natecho and handballer Victor Otuoma, who both described it as an honour, hoisting the country’s flag across the theatre with pride and glamour.

The Kenyan team in Hammamet is led by National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) Deputy President Shoaib Voyani who is the Chief de Mission, while John Ogolla is the Executive Liaison Officer.

NOC-K president Paul Tergat and Secretary General Francis Mutuku are also in Hamammet, with the rest of the team. The games start on Saturday morning with Kenya represented by 73 athletes.

Kenya will compete in handball, marathon, wrestling, kayak ocean racing, sprint rowing, tennis, football and 3x3 basketball.

On Saturday, the sprint rowing team of Natecho and Harrison Malenga will be in action, while the men and women’s handball teams take on Morocco and Algeria respectively in their opening pool matches.
