Snow leads Kenya's charge as 2026 Magical Kenya Open local field is announced

Muthaiga golf club's professional golfer Greg Snow, who led the Order of Merit at the conclusion of the Professional Golfers of Kenya (PGK) Tour will lead Team Kenya in the chase for this year's Magical Kenya Open tournament honours.

The top ten finishers in the Tour that acts as the qualifying tournament for the global competition have received invitations to the competition slated for Thursday, 19 to Sunday, 22 February at Karen Country Club.

Snow is joined by Samuel Njoroge, David Wakhu, Kibugu brothers Njoroge and Mutahi, Dismas Indiza, Daniel Nduva, Edwin Mudanyi, CJ Wangai and Jastas Madoya.

In addition to the pros, the Kenya Amateur Golf Championship and Junior golf tour has produced more participants led by champion John Lejirma, Michael Karanga, Jay Sandhu, Harish Shashwat and Junaid Maji.

The final amateur slot will be awarded to the best-placed Kenyan player at the Africa Amateur Championship, scheduled to take place from 4 to 7 February in South Africa.

"The selection process for invitation to participate in the Open is competitive and transparent, guided by the standards, rules, and principles established by our partners, DP World Tour. These guidelines mean that those who qualify for the tournament meet the required merits and cut-offs, ensuring that the field quality remains at a high level, which is a priority for all parties.

The Open also helps nurture and inspire more talent from the amateur and junior ranks by according those invited to participate, the opportunity to meet, interact and learn from the professionals," a statement from Kenya Open Golf Limited reads in part.

The event, part of the DP World Tour event calendar for professional golfers worldwide, is expected to attract approximately 15,000 spectators from within Kenya and over 10,000 foreign golfing enthusiasts during the four-day showpiece.

Beyond the sport, the Magical Kenya Open delivers significant economic impact. The event is projected to inject over USD 5 million (Ksh650 million) directly into the Kenyan economy, providing a major boost to tourism and supporting Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

Hotels in Nairobi and surrounding areas are already reporting high booking levels ahead of the tournament.
