Okutoyi and Nyangom laid down the marker in the quarter finals when they stunned top seeds Abigail Amos (Great Britain) and Arabella Koller (Austria) in the quarter finals.

2022 Wimbledon Girls’ Doubles champion Angella Okutoyi and her French partner Beverly Nyangom are one match away from clinching the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Women’s World Tennis Tour W15 Monastir tournament taking place in Tunisia.

This is after the pair successfully navigated their way to the title decider after benefiting from the retirement of their opponents Raquel Gonzalez (Spain) and Sofia Camila (Spain) in their semifinals clash without even needing to play the second set.

Okutoyi and Nyangom, who were unseeded in the tournament, received the walkover after just 23 minutes when leading 5-2 in the opening set of the clash and will now face Italian duo of Samira De Stefano and Gaia Parravicini in the finals of the hard court tournament.

The fourth-seeded Italian duo knocked out second seeds Doga Turkmen (Tunisia) and Marie Villet (France) in a straight set 6-3, 6-4 victory to secure their spot in the title decider.

Okutoyi and Nyangom laid down the marker in the quarter finals when they stunned top seeds Abigail Amos (Great Britain) and Arabella Koller (Austria) 6-2, 6-1 blowing the tournament wide open.

The duo had started off impressively bageling Tunisian duo Chahd Berriri and Roua Limem 6-0, 6-0 in their first round match.

The inspiring Doubles run will serve as a perfect response for Okutoyi whose run in the Singles category in the same tournament was halted in the Round of 16 by Vlada Mincheva who emerged the winner in a three set thriller.

Okutoyi had landed the first punch in the bout as she took the opening set 6-1 but Mincheva rallied back to force a deciding set after a 7-6(5) tiebreak win. The Russian then rallied to seal the win with a 6-3 win in the third set, ending Okutoyi’s run.

The 19 year old Kenyan, who was a wild card in the event, had beaten Bulgaria’s Julia Stamatova 6-2, 6-1 in the first round in the Singles.

The Doubles final will serve off at 1230EAT.
