
Winning start for KPA in CAVB championship

The dockers face Injis in their second match of their group.
Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) men's volleyball side begun their CAVB men's club championship campaign off to a winning start against Ethiopia's Madda University.
In a nerve-racking five set thriller, the Sammy Mulinge-led side had to dig deep to defeat the varsity side 3-2 (25-21, 21-25,28-26,21-25, 15-12) and bag two crucial points as the journey to the championship quarters commenced.

The dockers began the first set well, going ahead at the first technical timeout (TTO) at 8-6 and again at the second TTO as they picked a six-point lead with the score reading 18-12.
Madda, however, mounted a comeback scoring eight against KPA's four to trail by two at 22-20 but the dockers pulled away to win the set 25-21 and get the upper hand.
The second set was closely fought, the dockers leading at the first technical break but the scores were soon after tied at 8. Madda, however, pulled away and were leading at the second technical break as they turned the tables Mulinge's charges to win the set 21-25.

The Kenyans were again chasing the match as they trailed 7-8 at the first TTO but recovered well to lead 16-14. Both sides, eager to have the advantage tied for the better part of the remaining part of the set but KPA overpowered Madda to take the set 28-26.
With two sets in the bag, the dockers had a chance to kill the game and bag maximum points but Madda would have none of that. The Ethiopians fought through a tight fourth set to overpower KPA 21-25 and set up a decider clash.
Mulinge's men stepped up, despite being tied on 8 points after the changeover to go on and win 15-13 for their first victory.
