Zetech face Ulinzi test in KBF league opener

Reading Time: 2min | Fri. 03.06.22. | 20:00

The first women's league match of the season will see Eagle Wings open the season against promoted Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).

Newbies Zetech Titans have been trusted into the deep waters of the local basketball scene as they are set to be welcomed to the top tier league by former champions Ulinzi Warriors on Saturday 4 June.

The Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) division one champions, Titans, have their work cut out against a wounded Warriors' side that was dethroned by Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) last season and are keen to begin the season on a high.

On their part, Titans, who are not new to the top tier or to facing Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) sides as they defeated KDF Morans in the division one playoff semis to gain promotion to the premier league are also looking to prove themselves as no pushover.

The Job Munene-coached varsity side face a new-look Warriors at least from the technical point of view as newly appointed Bernard Mufutu takes charge of his first assignment as head coach.

The former Warriors guard who until early last year was part of the playing unit before assuming the role of assistant coach takes over from William Balozi who guided the side to the league title in 2019.

The playing unit is also likely to look a bit different with some key players, mostly those not part of the military personnel, are rumoured to have jumped ship and are likely to turn up for different sides this season.

The other men's premier league match of the day will see losing semifinalists Strathmore Blades take open the season against Umoja.

The varsity side also have a date with Nairobi City Thunder in a repeat of last season's playoff quarters where the students got the better of the 2019 finalists.

In men's division one Kenya College of Accountancy-University (KCA-U) who have since been relegated will open their season against Moi Airbase (MAB).

Another Strathmore side will be in action in division one where they take on Shoot 4 LIFE.

On Sunday, the first women's league match of the season will see Eagle Wings open the season against promoted Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).
