Dala 7s: KCB, Strathmore, Oilers get perfect start in Kisumu as Homeboyz are held

The current top three teams in the 2022 National Sevens Circuit, KCB, Strathmore Leos and Menengai Oilers got off to a perfect start at the opening day of the Dala 7s being held at the Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Kisumu from 2-3 July.

Leading the table on 53 points after the opening three outings, five ahead of Leos and Oilers who are tied on 48 points in second and third, KCB thumped Blak Blad 31-0 in their Group C opener to make their statement of intent.

Leos, who are also in the same pool as the Bankers, equally picked a 24-12 win over Impala Saracens as they look to make amends for the quarter final exit in Mombasa.

Gibson Weru’s Oilers, who reached the main cup final for the very first time this season at the Driftwood 7s, defeated Masinde Muliro 31-12 in their pool B opener.

The surprising result in the round one matches came in the final clash where Catholic Monks held fourth placed Homeboyz to a 17-17 draw, indicating just how much the level of competition has gone up.

Elsewhere, Mwamba RFC, who are the top seeds in Kisumu courtesy of winning the latest Driftwood 7s, picked from where they left as they condemned hosts Kisumu RFC to a 20-7 defeat.

Kabras Sugar, who are yet to reach a main cup semifinal this season, also won 28-14 against Daystar Falcons.
