Shujaa are placed in pool D of the tournament
National rugby sevens team Shujaa have kicked off the 2023 HSBC World Rugby Series on the wrong footing after falling 28-12 to Ireland in a pool D match of the Hong Kong Sevens played on Friday morning.
Shujaa got off to a bright start as Billy Odhiambo touched down hardly two minutes into the game but the inability to remain mean at the rear saw Ireland level matters three minutes later through Niall Comeford.
Mark Roche stepped up and successfully coveted the resultant kick to give Ireland a two-point advantage heading to the breather.
A try after the gong that takes the wind out of our sails. The conversion is good as the match ends.

Jordan Conroy scored another try for Ireland in the ninth minute with Roche sending the ball through the uprights shortly to stretch the lead further.
However, Odhiambo reduced the deficit for Kenya after landing his second try in the game in the eleventh minute with Anthony Omondi making a successful conversion.
Kenya’s hopes of catching up with Ireland suffered a blow as Conroy scored his second try in the 13th minute after piercing through the defence and spectacularly sprinting to the line. Bully Dardis’s well weighted kick saw Ireland garner two more points.
Jack Nelly drive the final nail into Shujaa’s coffin in the added time with Dardis scoring the resuktant kick.
