The event will be hosted by Christie 7s defending champions Kabras RFC
The pools for the second leg of the 2024 National Sevens Circuit, Kakamega Ingo 7s, have been announced ahead of the event set to take place at Kakamega Showground on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 August.
The event will be hosted by Christie 7s defending champions Kabras RFC.
The hosts have been placed in Pool A and will lock horns with fellow cross-town neighbours Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) Rugby, Western Bulls and Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad.
The Sugarmen will be looking to capitalise on their home advantage to claim the overall title. They last won the title in 2022 after defeating Menengai Oilers in the thrilling final.
The Kakamega 7s was then replaced by Tisap 7s. The latter was scrapped owing to poor organisation, and Kabras will be keen to show what they are made of.
In Pool B, Christie 7s runners-up Kenya Harlequin will lock horns with Nondies, Daystar Falcons, and Mwamba. Kulabu received an invite after a disappointing performance during the Christie 7s.
Pool C features Catholic University of East Africa (CUEA) Monks, who finished third at Christie 7s, together with Menengai Oilers, Homeboyz Rugby, and the invited Kisumu RFC.
The final pool, Pool D, has Strathmore Leos, who achieved a fourth-place finish at Christie 7s, KCB Rugby, Nakuru RFC, and newly promoted Stallions Rugby.
Division II Pools
At the same time, pools for Division II have been announced. The matches will be played at the MMUST Grounds from Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 August.
In Pool A, Embu RFC will tackle KCA University, Sigalagala National Polytechnic and Kenya Police.
Pool B features Zetech University who will play against Mean Machine, Homabay Rugby and KisIi University.
Pool C has NYS Spades alongside Northern Suburbs, Mbale RFC and Webuye RFC.
In Pool D, AP Warriors will compete with Kabarak University, Vihiga Granites and Bungoma RFC.
The final Pool E has Tum Marines, MKU Nairobi, Busia Borderrucks and Shambere TTI.
