Veteran Collins Injera was making his first appearance of the season for his Mwamba team
Early season strugglers Mwamba RFC managed to put behind their woes as they recorded their first victory in the 2021/2022 Kenya Cup season following a dogged 10-28 performance against Kenyatta University's Blak Blad in a league encounter staged at the KCB Sports Club in Ruaraka on Saturday afternoon.
Boasting of having Collins Injera back with the squad for the first time this season, the Kelvin Wambua coached side showed sheer grit as they ended their four match losing streak against the varsity side.

In the match however, it is Blak Blad who came off the blocks the quickest as they took total control of the game in the opening proceedings. The team converted their dominance into something meaningful as they recorded the first points on the board when they elected to go for the penalty upon an infringement.
Captain Ajellti Ekesa duly stepped up and successfully converted to give his team an early 3-0 lead. Blad's bright start in the match would all be undone just five minutes later as Edwin Mutoka was sent to the sin bin, consequently giving Mwamba a man advantage which they did not hesitate in taking.
On the 25th minute, Joel Inzuga forced his way over the line for Mwamba after some neat play by Charles Kuka set up the opportunity, Kulabu racing to a 3-7 lead at half time following Kuka's successful conversion attempt.

In the second half, Blad had a mirror image to the first half start as they once again became the first side to record points on the board.
Marshall Mutai combining well with Ajellti on the halfway line as they left the Mwamba defense in sixes and sevens before they recorded the team's first try that was scored by Mutai and converted by Ajellti to take a 10-7 lead.
That score proved to be the last that Blad would have in the match as the steam rolling Mwamba came charging back with 21 unanswered points.
First, Kuka drew the game at 10-10 with a penalty before Mwamba added onto their lead with two tries, one which was converted and one which was missed, and another two penalties which helped secure the 10-28 result and a first win of the season after five games.
