Reading Time: 3min | Sat. 09.09.23. | 19:32

Nondies, Nakuru, Kabras, and KCB RFC topped their pools after picking massive wins on day one.

An interesting day one of the Kabeberi 7s came to a closure on Saturday,9 September, with eight teams successfully cruising to the main cup quarterfinals.

Pool A

In Pool A, Nondies RFC and Kenya Harlequins are through to the quarters. The Whiteshirts picked 3/3 wins in their pool. They started their campaign with a 12-7 win over Quins before defeating Tessen Sports 26-10. They then saw off Blak Blad 22-10 to seal top position in Pool A.

Their match against Blak Blad RFC was a testing one, but the Tisap 7s champions scored through Moseti Nyaenya's brace, and Fred Shisia to seal their top spot in the pool.

The Quins secured second position in the pool after managing 2/3 against Tessen Warriors and Blak Blad.

Pool B

Kennedy Njoroge’s charges, Nakuru RFC have joined bigwigs in the quarterfinals of the Kabeberi 7s. It was on these grounds last month that Wanyore failed to reach the finals following a defeat to KCB Rugby. They will be looking to avenge and make history.

Nakuru RFC ended their pool campaign on a high with a 40-5 win over Impala RFC. They scored through Christant Ojwang, Gilbert OchiengAmos ObaePhilip Okeyo, and 18-year-old James Macharia. Impala's sole try was through Clinton Musonye.

Nakuru RFC and Strathmore Leos are separated by point difference. Both have eight points, but Wanyore lead with a PD of 63 against Leos’ 56. This score was caused by their opening 5-5 draw.

Pool C

Kabras RFC had a not-so-good outing in Nairobi. Despite their rollercoaster of performances, the Sugarmen top the pool with 8 points and are through to the quarters.

The Sugarmen staged a remarkable comeback against Mwamba RFC in their final pool match to emerge 21-10 winners. Mwamba RFC missed the services of Brian Mutugi who injured his leg in the opening minutes of the game.

Kabras RFC’s Humphrey Asirikwa was the man of this match when he intercepted a pass from Moses Keragori to run all the way to the whitewash.

This match was a repeat of the Tisap 7s quarterfinals where Mwamba RFC edged Kabras 19-7. The Sugarmen were looking for revenge.

Pool D

The two familiar foes; Menengai Oilers and KCB Rugby met again. KCB Rugby were looking to avenge their 10-5 Tisap 7s quarter final loss in the hands of Menengai Oilers.

This time, the Bankers emerged 17-7 victorious over their rivals. The bankers opened the scoresheets through Eugene OmondiMike Wamalwa and Eugene Lubanga also added their names to the scoreboard.

Oilers on the other hand played without Timothy Lugalia who was injured in the opening minutes. They managed their sole converted try through Andrew Adero.
