KCB, Menengai Oilers handed balanced draw in 2024 Impala Floodies Tournament

Back-to-back Impala Floodlit champions KCB Rugby will begin their title defense against Kenya University’s Blak Blad in the first quarter-final

Local rugby fans have all the reasons to smile after the quarter-final pairings of the much-anticipated Impala Floodlit Tournament were conducted on Tuesday 15 October at the Impala Club.

The tournament will kick off on Saturday 19 October starting with the thrilling quarterfinal stage before the battle heads to the semifinal hurdle on Saturday 26 October. The competition will culminate on Saturday 2 November when the finals will be staged.

Back-to-back Impala Floodlit champions KCB Rugby will begin their title defense against Kenya University’s Blak Blad in the first quarter-final.

In other matches in the club category, last year’s runners-up Nondies will take on Strathmore, while the Menengai Oilers will face Catholic University of East Africa (CUEA) Monks, with hosts Impala taking on Mwamba in the last quarter-final.

The women’s competition will feature four sides, hosts Impala Roans will take on Northern Suburbs, with defending champions Mwamba facing NYS Ladies. The women’s matches will take place on Saturday 26 October and Saturday 2 November.

Defending university champions Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) will take on Daystar Falcons in the first quarter-finals, with Zetech facing the Kabete Stallions.

The Rift Varsities a team comprising universities in the Rift Valley area will take on United States International University (USIU) with Impala Boks playing KCA University in the last quarter-final.

Speaking on the tournament preparations during the draw, Impala Treasurer Allan Wamanga noted that they were leaving no stone unturned in making this year’s edition a resounding success.

“We are excited to host you here today as we draw a step closer to the tournament kick-off, preparations are in full gear, the pitch is in pristine condition, and we are finalizing repairs on the stands and lights to ensure that both fans and players enjoy a world-class experience,” Wamanga noted.

At the same time, the tournament has received a major boost from Safaricom, Huawei, and Coca-Cola.

The tournament tickets are available for Ksh500.

KCB Rugby are the defending champions having secured a narrow 25-23 win over Nondies RFC in extra time last year to clinch their 10th title.

The victory saw them overtake Mean Machine who had nine titles. They also made history as the first team to win the Floodies title five times in a row.
