KCB RFC will tackle Menengai Oilers while Kabras RFC welcome Kenya Harlequins.

The semi-finals for the 2022/23 Kenya Cup have been confirmed, with the top four teams on the table set to lock horns on Saturday 4 March. Mean Machine and MMUST RFC have already bid farewell to the top tier.

Kabras RFC will face fourth-placed Kenya Harlequins in the first semi-final that will be played at the Kakamega Showground. The sugarmen have had a 100%-win rate. With that performance, Carlos Kyatwa’s charges secured a home semi-final and a possible home final.

Kenya Harlequins on the other hand started off the season on a low, but have been steadily rising. Their recent win is the 38-13 win over Strathmore Leos at the RFUEA Grounds.

Quins last featured in the finals in 2010 where they faced off against KCB RFC and beat them 26-21. If KCB RFC defeats Menengai Oilers and Quins beat Kabras RFC, then there will be a repeat of the same finals.

The second quarter-final features KCB RFC vs Menengai Oilers. Again, fans will be treated to a repeat of last season’s semi-finals where Geoffrey Ominde’s kicking masterclass saw Oilers score eight penalties to defeat KCB RFC 24-17. The defeat halted the Bankers’ dream of qualifying for the finals.

Menengai Oilers have not had an impressive season like their past one. This season, they have been defeated twice, and they staged a tough match against Kabras RFC that was halted by the rain. They will be keen to qualify for the finals and achieve their dream of defeating Kabras RFC.

Varsity sides Mean Machine and MMUST RFC bid farewell to the Kenya Cup side following a series of not-so-good performances. MMUST only managed a win this season while Mean Machine won twice. Two teams from the Championship level will climb the rank to the Kenya Cup side.

The two teams that will impress next weekend will qualify for the 2022/23 Kenya Cup finals.
