This year’s tournament marks a return to Nyayo Stadium after three years, the last edition at the venue being in 2021, where Shujaa thrilled home fans by edging out Germany in a pulsating final.
The stadium, recently refurbished for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), will now once again play host to Africa’s premier sevens rugby spectacle.
Safari 7s, hailed as one of the most prestigious rugby events on the continent, showcases a mix of top men’s, women’s, and age-grade teams from across the globe, all eyeing the coveted Robin Cahill Trophy.
It will be the fourth time Nyayo stages the competition after the 2011, 2012, and 2021 editions.
Defending champions Kenya Shujaa head into the tournament with history on their side.
They are fresh from completing a rare three-peat last year in Machakos, where they defeated Shogun Rugby 12-0 in the final, adding to their triumphs in 2021 and 2023. That streak made Shujaa the first team to secure a treble since 2008–2010.
The women’s side will also see fireworks, with Costa Blanca Ladies aiming to retain their crown.
Meanwhile, Kenya’s second-string side, the Morans, will be eager to build on last year’s bronze-medal finish after they outclassed Zimbabwe Cheetahs 26-5.
