Shujaa will be looking to improve from their 10th-place finish recorded in the Perth 7s in Australia
Kabras RFC’s fullback Jackson Siketa has been drafted into the squad that will represent Kenya in the upcoming fourth leg of the HSBC World Rugby 7s Series; Vancouver 7s slated for Friday 21, to Sunday 23 February in Canada.
Siketa joins the team alongside his teammate Jone Kubu, who will make his 2025 HSBC debut following his inclusion in the Shujaa team.
The Fijian-born Kenyan international was part of the training squad in 2023 but missed out due to suspension.
Kubu has been steadily regaining form after recovering from knee surgery, as he has scored five tries in four appearances for Kabras this season.
Siketa, on the other hand, has been a standout player since his days at Koyonzo High School.
While in the school, Siketa helped Koyonzo Stormers bag their maiden Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) Rugby 7s title in 2023.
Consequently, the team made history by becoming the first Kenyan side to clinch the regional title.
He also bagged the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award at both the national and East African stages.
His impressive record saw him join the Kenya U20 national team; Chipu where his exploits continued.
The youngster was part of the team that won the 2024 Barthes Cup after defeating favorites Zimbabwe 28-13 to book a slot in the World Rugby U20 Trophy in Scotland.
Fresh from Scotland, where he showcased his skills on the international stage, Siketa was promptly included in Kabras RFC’s senior squad for the 2024 National 7s Circuit.
He quickly made his mark, scoring three crucial tries that helped Kabras secure their first-ever Dala 7s title.
His performance was instrumental in propelling the team to a second-place finish in the circuit.
He also played for Kenya Morans during the 2024 Safari 7s to see them complete the podium.
Nondies RFC’s Benson Salem and KCB Rugby’s Festus Shiasi will miss the leg.
George Ooro and Samuel Asati will retain their positions as captains.
Kevin Wekesa, Vincent Onyala, Dennis Abukuse, Anthony Omondi, Patrick Odongo, Floyd Wabwire, and Brian Tanga are all in the traveling party.
Shujaa will be looking to improve from their 10th-place finish recorded in the Perth 7s in Australia.
They have been placed in a fair Pool A that sees them tackle Argentina, Paris Olympics champions France, and Great Britain.
