Former Leipzig and Borussia manager is taking over Bournemouth
Less than a week after it was announced that Andoni Iraola (43) would leave AFC Bournemouth after three years, the Premier League side has revealed his successor. It’s Marco Rose (49), former head coach of Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig, once considered among the most promising managers in Germany. As confirmed by the club from Dorset, Rose has signed a three-year contract, which will come into effect at the end of the current season.
The German coach has been out of work for over 12 months, since RB Leipzig dismissed him following a defeat to his former club Borussia Monchengladbach in March last year. Although Leipzig’s qualification for the UEFA Champions League was under threat at the time, it later turned out that his successor couldn’t even secure a place in the UEFA Europa Conference League. Before his spells in Germany, where he was also the coach of Borussia Dortmund for one season, Rose also managed Red Bull Salzburg, winning two league titles and one Austrian Cup in just two seasons.
AFC Bournemouth is delighted to confirm the appointment of Marco Rose as the club’s new head coach on a three-year contract, which will begin following the conclusion of the 2025/26 season.

English clubs have had notable success in recent years hiring managers from the Bundesliga. Jurgen Klopp built a legendary status at Liverpool FC, Thomas Tuchel led Chelsea FC to a Champions League title, while Oliver Glasner became a hero at Crystal Palace. Fabian Hurzeler is doing solid work at Brighton & Hove Albion, and Daniel Farke has been steady with Leeds United. Rose’s reputation and coaching pedigree suggest he could successfully continue that trend. As for Iraola, speculation links him with a return to Athletic Bilbao or a move to Manchester United. However, reports indicate that another former Bundesliga coach, Edin Terzić, is currently the frontrunner for the Bilbao job.
