Bayern in a race against themselves, Dortmund for position #2

Given their advantage and form, the Bavarians don't have a real competition in the Bundesliga, while the BVB want to return to their place of "eternal chaser"

Twelve victories and a draw, a 49-9 goal difference, and an eight-point edge over the second-placed Bundesliga team - that's Bayern Munich's current tally. The impression is that it couldn't have been better, as Vincent Kompany and his men have established an unprecedented dominance.

It would be a genuine shock if the Munich side's 12 triumphs didn't become 13 and the goal difference didn't improve by at least three or four goals after today's game against the bottom-placed Mainz at Allianz Arena (19.30).

The visitors have only one league win so far and are officially the worst attacking team, having scored just 11 goals. And even though they knew how to stun Bayern in the last couple of seasons - last time during the previous Bundesliga campaign, approximately a year ago - Mainz don't seem to stand a chance.

On the other hand, following RB Leipzig's failure and a defeat to Union Berlin in the capital last night, Borussia Dortmund have a chance to return to the place of "eternal chasers" and take the position #2.

Niko Kovac's crew is undefeated in the league since October 18 and the 2-1 defeat to mighty Bayern in Der Klassiker, but it won't make much of a difference in Freiburg today (17.30).

The team from Europa-Park Stadium beat RB Salzburg three days ago in the UEFA Europa League and awaits the clash against BVB in a good atmosphere. Apart from that, their motivation must be high for another reason - Dortmund's recent dominance.

Namely, Borussia are on a seven-win run against Freiburg, and some of those losses were as crushing as it gets, while the goal difference is humiliating - 28-6!

Freiburg haven't conceded fewer than three goals against Dortmund since August 2021, and if saving their honour isn't a good enough stimulus to give it all today, then nothing is.
