The Brazilian will look for another club when his contract runs out in June 2026
A great player and a great champion. After all, Manchester United themselves wrote “serial winner.” And yet, the impression remains that during his four-year spell at Old Trafford he did not win all that much. Now it has become clear that Casemiro will leave Manchester with the 2023 League Cup and the 2024 FA Cup as his only trophies. United announced today that the Brazilian will leave the club when his contract expires in June. He did his job, played 146 matches and scored 21 goals. But still, when he arrived in June 2022 under Erik ten Hag, more was expected. After all, he came as a five-time European champion—not to mention the many other trophies he lifted while playing for Real Madrid.

Knowing when to say goodbye when you feel that you will be remembered and respected forever.
Four months to give my all for this badge and for our goal.

The Royal Club knew how to cash in on that, and from today’s perspective many will say that they “conned” United by selling them an already heavily worn player for 70 million euros. On the other hand, it is quite clear that Casemiro—he was only 29 at the time—still had his pick of destinations. And he certainly could have joined a club where he would have had better chances of winning trophies than at United.
Still, Casemiro cannot say he was deceived. Only Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah are currently paid more than him in the Premier League. The Brazilian earns around 21 million euros per year at Old Trafford, excluding bonuses. So when you add up those wages plus the transfer fee, it turns out that United paid a total of 150 million euros for Casemiro. And they certainly expected more. Another matter is that the club itself is probably more to blame for how far United have fallen behind their English rivals in recent years.
United confirmed today that Casemiro will leave Manchester at the end of the season, even though the club had the option to activate an additional, fifth year. The Daily Mail reports that Casemiro personally asked to address the fans already and inform them of the news.
“I will carry Manchester United with me throughout my entire life. From the first day that I walked out at this beautiful stadium, I felt the passion of Old Trafford and the love that I now share with our supporters for this special club. It is not time to say goodbye; there are many more memories to create during the next four months. We still have a lot to fight for together; my complete focus will, as always, remain on giving my everything to help our club to succeed“ he said for the club‘s website. It is expected that the Brazilian midfielder will continue his career in MLS or Saudi Arabia.
