The clubs’ grievances largely revolve around financial matters and the status of sponsorship for women’s competitions.
The Football Kenya Federation has urged Women Premier League clubs to reconsider their threat to boycott this weekend’s matches, warning that such action would bring the game into disrepute.
Eleven of the 12 clubs competing in the FKF Women Premier League met virtually on Wednesday and resolved to boycott the scheduled fixtures until the grievances they raised with the federation are addressed. Only Kenya Police Bullets FC did not attend the meeting.
In a swift response, the federation appealed to the clubs to back down while confirming that a meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday at its offices in Kasarani to discuss the concerns.
“Reference is made to your letter dated 11th March 2026 and note the concerns raised therein,” read a communiqué from acting CEO Dennis Gicheru.
“The Federation had already planned structured engagements with all clubs across all the leagues through which the Federation intended to meet the respective club leadership and address matters affecting the leagues comprehensively.”
“The Federation has scheduled a meeting with all FKF-WPL clubs on Tuesday 17th March 2026 9:00am at Kandanda House. In the meantime, we urge all clubs to honour all scheduled fixtures as planned in the best interest of football and to avoid bringing the game into disrepute,” the statement added.
The clubs’ grievances largely revolve around financial matters and the status of sponsorship for women’s competitions.
Among the key issues raised are:
- Lack of communication from FKF regarding the already disbursed FIFA Women Development Fund.
- Delayed unveiling of a Women Premier League sponsor, which had been promised for November last year.
- Failure to disburse financial support to women’s teams by the end of the first leg of the season as earlier promised by the Women Representative.
- No communication on when the Women’s Cup will kick off.
- Absence of a sponsor for the Women’s Cup competition.
- Requests by FKF for clubs to facilitate transport costs for Harambee Starlets players.
During Wednesday’s virtual meeting, representatives from 11 of the 12 clubs agreed to boycott the fixtures scheduled for March 14–15 until their concerns are addressed.

The decision was formally communicated to the federation by caucus chairperson Richard Teka, who represents Kibera Soccer Women.
“The FKF-WPL caucus congregated today and noted that of all the emerging issues raised previously, none has been resolved. Neither is the Federation any keener to chart the way forward on constant teething problems as faced by the actors within women football,” read part of their resolutions.
“Resultantly, we have unanimously resolved to boycott the upcoming league matches as scheduled for 14th to 15th March 2026. This is until the FKF leadership as steered by the President meets all the FKF-WPL leaders and demonstrates the solutions to unresolved challenges.”
It now remains to be seen whether the clubs will heed the federation’s call to honour this weekend’s fixtures or proceed with their boycott threat.
