A win for either side would take them to the top of the league table in what is so far a very competitive season.

Heading into the round, Kenyan giants Gor Mahia are at the summit of the league table with 23 points. K’Ogalo regained the top spot following their 1-0 victory over Kakamega Homeboyz in midweek.

KCB are second with 21 points, same as AFC Leopards, Police FC, Tusker FC and Posta Rangers with only goal difference separating the five sides. Shabana are eighth with 20 points to their name.

At the bottom of the log sits Kariobangi Sharks with 11 points, one shy of Sofapaka as military side Ulinzi Stars complete the bottom three with 13 points.

Shabana are unbeaten in their last seven matches but have won only three of those, a testament to their inconsistency that includes consecutive draws in the last two matches.

Nevertheless, the team will draw motivation from the fact that they are only a point shy of second placed KCB, and only three points separate them from league leaders Gor Mahia.

The Glamour Boys will also be encouraged, knowing that they collected maximum points in their last two games in Nairobi against Ulinzi and Police and have not lost in the capital this season.

KCB are the most on-form team in the league currently having won four and drew one in the last five league games including three consecutive wins.

The Robert Matano-coached side had previously endured a rough patch of a five-match winless streak putting Matano under immense pressure.

KCB’s win over APS Bomet in midweek took them to the top of the table before they were later displaced by Gor Mahia.

Despite the good run, Matano still demands a lot from his players, noting that the league is still open for everyone.

There are some aspects of the game that we still need to improve ahead of the Sofapaka game. Our aim is to get better with each passing game and have some consistently while at it.

It is too early to start talking about the title and the title race. We are not even done with the first leg. For us, the goal is to keep improving and win our matches,” he stated.
