After a season and a half of searching in vain, Gor Mahia may finally have found the man to fill the void left by Benson Omalla, if the early signs from new signing Ebenezer Assifuah are anything to go by.

Omalla first left the Kenyan giants in July 2025 for Lebanese side Safa SC, ending a five-year spell that saw him grow into one of the most lethal forwards in the FKF Premier League.
During his time at K’Ogalo, the striker helped the club secure two league titles and claimed the 2023/24 golden boot with 19 goals, having finished second the previous season after scoring 26, just one shy of Elvis Rupia.
His departure left a gaping hole in Gor Mahia’s attack.
The club moved quickly to sign Congolese striker Gedeon Bandeka and Patrick Esombe, but the duo struggled badly, combining for fewer than 10 league goals in the 2024/25 season.
The struggles forced K’Ogalo to re-sign Omalla in January 2025 as a short-term fix.
This season, Gor reshuffled their forward line again, bringing in Ghanaian duo Ebenezer Adukwaw and George Amonoo.
While Adukwaw has managed five league goals, Amonoo has found the net just once, leaving fans still yearning for a reliable finisher.
The club also roped in Harambee Stars forward Felix Oluoch following his impressive showing at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
Oluoch has scored seven league goals and sits third on the scoring chart, but his tendency to miss clear-cut chances has drawn criticism, especially in big games.
That frustration peaked during the Mashemeji Derby on 7 December 2025, when Gor Mahia failed to register a single shot on target in their 1-0 defeat to AFC Leopards.
Now, hope has arrived in the form of Assifuah.
The Ghanaian striker announced himself in style on his debut on 14 January, coming off the bench to score the winning goal in a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over Murang’a Seal.

Four days later, he was again introduced as a substitute and played a key role by providing the assist for Samwel Kapen’s goal in a convincing 3-0 win over Mara Sugar.
“For him, we just needed to manage his fitness because he is very experienced and has played in bigger leagues like France,” said Gor Mahia assistant coach Bismark Kobi-Mensah. “Once he is fit, the quality is there for everyone to see.”
Assifuah previously featured for French Ligue 1 side Le Havre between 2017 and 2020 before stints at Pau in Ligue 2 and Malaysian outfit Kedah Darul, from where he joined Gor Mahia in January.
With fans already warming to him, the former Ghana international has spoken openly about the pressure that comes with wearing the famous green and white shirt.
“I thank everyone who has helped me settle in. The pressure was there from the first day, but I was prepared for it,” Assifuah told Gor Mahia TV. “Settling in has been easier because I have my Ghanaian brothers both in the squad and in the technical bench.”
He also weighed in on the intensifying title race with arch-rivals AFC Leopards.
“We are looking forward to winning the title, but we are taking one match at a time,” he said.
As K’Ogalo push to reclaim the FKF Premier League crown, the need for a reliable goal scorer remains critical.
And while it is still early days, Assifuah has already shown flashes of the killer instinct Gor Mahia have missed since Omalla’s departure.
The 32-year-old is expected to get more minutes when Gor Mahia face relegation-threatened Bidco United in their next league outing.
