The young custodian has been impressive for the Oilers this campaign and has so far kept seven clean sheets and countless top-class saves for his club.

In a season that has had goalkeepers in the spotlight largely for the wrong reasons, Emuria has been one of the stars in an otherwise dark campaign for the Thika-based club and naturally attracted interest from other suitors.

One such interest came from Police FC, who offered him a lucrative offer that included joining the National Police Service (NPS), a competitive salary, as well as an attractive sign-on fee.

Speaking to the press, Bidco head coach Anthony Akhulia explained how he convinced the youngster to stay in the club’s fold.

“While all these big clubs were interested in him (Emuria), I thought that the reality of the matter is that they would use him as an understudy or better still, would not be patient with him in case he makes a mistake,” said Akhulia.

“Police, for example, already have Job (Ochieng), who would still be their first choice goalkeeper.

I therefore advised him that if he is to play at the top level for long, he needs to have at least one full season as a regular, increase his clean sheets and exposure and maybe consider his options thereafter,” he added.

The Rising Stars tactician went ahead to explain that the decision was all about foregoing instant gratification to build sustainable happiness.

“He has been great to us, and we will keep pushing him to improve even further. He is a young and good goalkeeper, but this is the first season that he is having as a regular first-choice goalkeeper for a top-flight club, and therefore, I had a candid conversation with him about the industry,” he stated.
