Sharks are still winless after two games, having recorded barren draws against Bandari and Ulinzi Stars.

The Bankers, meanwhile, started brightly with a 2-0 win over Tusker FC but stumbled in week two, losing 1-0 to Mathare United.

Historically, Sharks have enjoyed the upper hand in this fixture, winning five of the last ten meetings.

KCB have managed just two wins, while the remaining two encounters ended in draws.

Coach William Muluya’s biggest concern heading into today’s clash is his side’s lack of cutting edge in front of goal.

Known for their free-flowing, attacking football, Sharks struggled last season, scoring just 29 goals — their lowest tally in the top flight.

Two matches into the new campaign, they are yet to find the back of the net.

“If you look at the number of goals we scored last season, it was 29, the lowest ever in our league campaign. For the nine seasons we have been in the top flight, we have had strikers top the scoring charts in four of them. We need to get back to those times. I intend to keep working on converting our goal-scoring chances,” Muluya said.

However, the former Harambee Stars assistant coach was encouraged by his team’s defensive solidity, as they are yet to concede this season.

“In the game against Bandari, we were the underdogs. Against Ulinzi Stars, we were also the underdogs. I am very happy that in the first two games, we have not conceded a goal. We will continue working the same way for the upcoming fixtures,” he added.

On the other side, KCB head coach Robert Matano has urged his team to respond positively after last weekend’s defeat.

“It was a tough match in difficult conditions, but we have to move on quickly. Our focus now is on Sharks, and we must prepare well to bounce back,” he said.

The Bankers, who invested heavily in the off-season and brought in the vastly experienced Matano, have made it clear that their target is nothing short of the league title.

Assistant captain Humphrey Mieno echoed his coach’s confidence, insisting the squad is determined to recover from the Mathare setback.

I can tell from the mood in the camp that the boys are psyched up and ready to go. We are coming back from a loss, but we are positive and ready to face our next match against Kariobangi Sharks,” he said.
