The two neighbouring countries have exhibited intense rivalry over the years, but more so during the ongoing 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Kenya and Tanzania have been in a supremacy battle on which of the two countries is better and stronger in terms of football and especially when there was a possibility of meeting at the knockout phase of the competition.

While the two countries did not meet as they both finished on top of their respective groups and were later eliminated, clubs from each side are set to meet in a case of renewed rivalry.

Simba SC have invited Kenya Police FC for a friendly match as part of the Simba Day celebrations set to take place on Wednesday, 20 September at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Should Kenya Police accept the invitation for the annual celebrations and the match, the rivalry between Kenya and Tanzania will begin on social media.

Originally celebrated on 8 August of every year, this year's Simba Day was postponed due to the ongoing CHAN tournament that Tanzania is co-hosting alongside Kenya and Uganda.

The friendly match will be the first time ever that the two clubs will be meeting, with Kenya Police growing in stature every year.

The exhibition game will come at a time when Police will be in Tanzania to compete in the upcoming CECAFA Kagame Cup set for Tuesday, 2 to Monday, 15 September in Dar es Salaam.

The tournament will see hosts Tanzania represented by Singida Black Stars, Uganda will have Vipers SC as their representatives, while Kenya Police will fly the Kenyan flag in the tournament.

Other teams in the 12-team tournament will be El Merreikh SC Bentiu (South Sudan), Mlandege SC (Zanzibar), Flambeau Du Centre (Burundi), Garde Cortes FC (Djibouti) and Ethiopian Coffee SC (Ethiopia).

Sudan will have two representatives in the tournament: Al Hilal Omdurman and Al Ahly SC Wad Madani.
