The defender will be hoping to win hos first major title after failing to do so with his previous clubs

Gor Mahia defender Michael Kibwage has described his latest national team appearance as a timely boost ahead of the final stretch of the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF-PL) season.

Speaking shortly after contributing to Harambee Stars’ 3-0 triumph over Grenada in the FIFA Series international friendly mini-tournament, Kibwage expressed renewed determination to guide his club toward league glory.

The national team secured third place in the four-team competition staged in Kigali, Rwanda.

Kibwage was making a return to the national setup following a four-month absence, with his last appearance coming on 18 November 2025 in Harambee Stars’ loss to Senegal in the African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

“Personally, I feel highly motivated. Coming back to the national team and making an appearance is always a great inspiration,” Kibwage said. “The last nine matches of the league will be crucial, and I feel ready to steer Gor Mahia through the remaining fixtures until the season ends.

His remarks come at a pivotal moment for the record league champions, who are currently leading the FKF-PL table with 56 points, four clear of second-placed AFC Leopards.

Gor Mahia is chasing their 22nd league title, and every remaining match carries significant weight in the title race.

Under the guidance of coach Charles Akonnor, the side still faces a challenging slate of fixtures, including clashes against: twelve-time champions Tusker, Kariobangi Sharks, Kakamega Homeboyz, Bandari, arch-rivals AFC Leopards, reigning champions Kenya Police, Murang’a Seal, Mara Sugar, and Nairobi United.

Each of these encounters presents both a test and an opportunity to consolidate their position at the summit of league standings in quest for league glory which eluded them last season.
