Mathare United head coach John Kamau has tore into winger Douglas Mokaya who was subbed off 18 minutes after coming on against Shabana FC.
The Slum Boys played host to the Glamour Boys in a league match on Wednesday 25 February at the Nyayo National Stadium that ended 1-0 in favor of Shabana courtesy of a last minute goal by captain George Onyango.
While there were a lot of talking points from the match, one peculiar one was the decision by Kamau to take off Mokaya in the 81st minute after he was introduced in the 63rd minute.
Speaking to Azam TV the former Harambee Stars assistant coach explained the decision to take the audacious step.
“When we introduced him, his instructions as a good ball player was to help us in attack but he was losing the ball every time that he had it, putting us in a very disadvantageous and dangerous situation,” said Kamau.

The experienced tactician went ahead to elucidate further his expectation of his players when given an opportunity.
“If we introduce you to keep possession but instead keep losing it, he has to understand that we are in the second leg and every player must utilize the minutes they get however few they are,” he added.
The result piled pressure on Kamau who is reportedly under fire from the club’s management over prolonged poor results.
With the result, Mathare remained 11th on the log with 26 points. The Slum Boys continue to endure bad results including just one of their last five matches.
The Slum Boys have now lost four of their last 10 matches and are off their ambitions of a top three finish target at the start of the season.
Kamau and his troops will have an opportunity to bounce back when they face high-flying Gor Mahia on Saturday 28 February.
