Simba wa Nairobi signed more than five players in the off-season transfer window

Former Vapor Sports pair of winger Robinson Asenwa and midfielder Abuyeka Kubasu made their Football Kenya Federation Premier League bows on Sunday, September 17, 2023, against Gor Mahia at the Kasarani Stadium.

Asenwa and Abuyeka made their entry into the Kenyan top flight as 75th-minute substitutes and joined centre-back Sosthenes Idah, who made his Nairobi City Stars debut as a second-half substitute.

Abuyeka, who was signed in last season’s mid-season transfer window, said it has taken him patience and hard work to get some minutes at the top level.

The midfielder further opened up about his desire to get more playing time going forward.

It’s been months of adaptation and integration into the team. Patience, continued improvement, and hard work are what made me get to the point where I earned my first top-flight game. I want to build on it from here and become a regular in the team,” he told club media.

Asenwa on the other hand, had a bittersweet feeling after debuting in the top flight. He says the experience, however, didn’t end as anticipated, as Gor won 4-1.

It’s a mixed feeling; while I am happy to have made it to the Premier League, the loss clouded my first game at this level,” he said.

Meanwhile, Idah, formerly at Kakamega Homeboyz and Bandari, as well as Coastal Union and Polisi Tanzania, said he remains hopeful that his experience will help the club get positive results.

City Stars are winless three rounds into the season, having played Muhoroni Youth and Bidco United to draws in the opening two games of the season.

This is just the beginning. Now that playtime has come my way, I want to maintain it and bring my experience to help the team get the right results,” said the centre back.

Asenwa and Abuyeka improved the list of new Premier League entrants at Simba wa Nairobi this season to six. Four others made their debut during the opening game against Muhoroni Youth at the Kasarani Annex on August 27, 2023.

Center-back Wycliffe Awiko Omondi nailed a full game on in that game; striker Brian Mose Nyambane, flyer Gilbert Abala, and defensive midfielder Brian Omondi Mzee all came on as second-half substitutes in that game.
