Oduor believes Nairobi United have lacked calmness and confidence on the ball in their opening two group-stage matches of the prestigious continental competition.

We need to improve our composure and confidence with the ball. You can create a lot of chances, but if you’re not composed in the final third, it becomes difficult to convert them.

This was the case on Sunday against AS Maniema we played well in the first half but struggled to take our chances,” the shot-stopper said.

Naibois suffered a 1-0 defeat to AS Maniema of the Democratic Republic of Congo in their second Group B match at Kasarani Stadium on Sunday.

The loss leaves them bottom of the group following their 3–0 opening-day defeat to Wydad Casablanca in the Moroccan capital a fortnight earlier.

The capital club are making their maiden appearance in the Confederation Cup group stages after eliminating Tunisian giants Etoile Sportive du Sahel, becoming only the second Kenyan team to reach this phase.

Reflecting on their journey so far, Oduor said the players are learning firsthand what it takes to compete at the highest level of African football.

It is a learning process through all these games. The intensity and composure of the teams we are facing is very different from what we encounter locally. If we improve our composure, I believe we’ll get better going forward,” he added.

Nairobi United will next be in continental action on January 25, when they host Tanzanian heavyweights Azam FC at Kasarani.

In the meantime, their focus shifts back to the FKF Premier League, where they face Mathare United on Friday.

They currently sit 10th on the log with 12 points from six matches.
