Former Muhoroni Youth captain Vincent Cliff proved the difference, scoring the decisive goal in the 38th minute after a clever flick from club top scorer Alfred Ratolo.
The contest lived up to its pre-match hype, rekindling a rivalry born out of last season’s dramatic FKF Division One Zone B promotion saga.
Soy had initially earned automatic promotion to the NSL, before Gucha Stars successfully challenged a decision that had seen them docked points from their match against Nakuru Bucks.

The replay win handed Gucha direct promotion, while Soy were pushed into the playoffs, where they beat Bumbani Stars 1-0 at Dandora Stadium to secure their own NSL ticket.
Wednesday’s encounter was therefore more than just three points; it was about pride, dominance and settling old scores.
The Blue Eagles started on the front foot, with forwards Alfred Ratolo, Erick Namasaka and Dennis Shigami stretching Gucha’s defence with pace and movement.
The pressure finally paid off when Cliff burst forward from full-back to finish clinically, giving the host a deserved lead.
Gucha struggled to respond in attack, missing the cutting edge provided by former striker Vincent Nyabuto, who recently joined MOFA, as Soy controlled the tempo and saw out the contest.
The victory sealed a new club record for the Likuyani-based side, marking their first-ever run of five consecutive wins in the second tier.
Soy have now beaten Equity Bank (2-1), Mombasa United (1-0), Nzoia Sugar (2-0), Mwatate United and Gucha Stars to continue their strong start to 2026.
Under the tutelage of head coach Jeffers Odongo, Soy have climbed to the fifth place on the table with 31 points, level with fourth-placed Fortune Sacco, but behind on goal difference.
Gucha Stars, meanwhile, remain in deep trouble.
The defeat extended their winless run to six matches, leaving them 17th in the 20-team league standings with 19 points after 18 games.
