Onana intends to fight for his place in Manchester

His close friend and former Premier League star revealed Onana's thoughts

When Senne Lammens was signed from Royal Antwerp for 18 million pounds, eyebrows were raised at Old Trafford. United’s legend, former goalkeeper and the current Manchester Global Ambassador Peter Schmeichel even said that he never heard of him and that keepers like Dibu Martinez and Giggio Donnarumma were far better choices. Apparently Ruben Amorim thought the same and Lammens was one of the reasons he clashed with the scouting department, who thought that the Belgian has he upside being cheaper and younger. So far, they were right as Lammens took the job between the sticks and holds it firmly, receiving praises in the process. But it looks like he will have a proper competition come June, and it will be a familiar face.

Andre Onana had a mixed season and was soon ousted by Amorim, who shipped him to Trabzonspor on a loan. The Cameroonian international intends to come back to Old Trafford in June and fight for his place, according to his friend and former Chelsea midfielder.

“Listen, I know Andre very well and during his time at United there were a lot of things that were not right. It wasn't just him. And believe me, with the arrival of Michael Carrick, things are looking good for everyone, including him. He is clearly talented and his gifts are rare. The next thing is for him to go back there and fight for his spot. Andre has always excelled when faced with a challenge. He thrives when he's given a fair chance to prove himself. In my career I enjoyed playing in teams with big ambitions and big personalities. If I had a few bad games, there was always someone knocking on the manager's door asking for a chance. That meant I had to stand up, be counted and not walk away. But that is for Andre to decide“ said Geremy.

However, from coming back to Manchester to reclaiming his spot as the club‘s number 1 keeper is a long way. First of all, Onana will come back from his loan an the end of the season, and by that time, Michael Carrick will end his contract as interim manager. Will he be appointed full-time is anyone‘s guess. But even if he gets the job, Lammens will still be his first-choice keeper. Carrick praised the young keeper a few times in the media, so it will be his job‘s to loose. There were also credible reports from UK that the Cameroonian actually has no intention of returning to Manchester when the season ends.
