Ouch! Conte defends Hojlund and covertly slams 'arrogant' Amorim

The Italian gaffer did not mind his words, talking about "some young coaches", while commenting on the Danish striker's situation

After a poor previous season with Manchester United, Rasmus Hojlund joined Napoli on loan last June and made one of the best moves in his career. In 25 games with the Neapolitans, he scored nine goals, totally reviving his confidence and goal-scoring form.

Now, the reasons behind the Dane's resurrection may be various: from a change of country and league to a change of club, teammates, and coach. Especially the coach, if you ask Antonio Conte.

Namely, ahead of the Serie A clash against Sassuolo two days ago, the Italian gaffer commented on Hojlund and his short-term scoreless run, sending a message which many interpreted as taking a jab at the striker's former manager at Old Trafford, Ruben Amorim.

"Some young coaches nowadays are arrogant and don't want to adapt. They see a young striker struggling, and instead of training him, they blame him."

"They always complain and blame everyone but themselves, because everything is handed to them on a silver platter," Conte bluntly said via Yahoo Sports.

Now, one can hardly determine whether it was entirely the Portuguese's fault that Hojlund scored only ten goals in 52 matches last season, but for his more experienced colleague, there's obviously no doubt.

The 22-year-old Dane's loan in Naples ends next June, though it's still unclear who'll coach him if he opts to stay at Man United with Amorim out of the picture - the current caretaker Michael Carrick, Oliver Glasner, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, or one of the remaining dozen names the media in England have lately been bandying about.
