Football Kenya Federation Premier League side Shabana FC has issued a firm rebuttal to allegations, circulating on social media, that appeared to suggest club officials improperly benefited from gate collections from their home match against Gor Mahia.
The club, through its secretary general Elizaphan Kerema, dismissed the claims as false and misleading, distancing itself from a viral document that purported to detail matchday income and expenditure from the high-profile encounter staged last weekend at Gusii Stadium.

Shabana raised Kshs 3,157,500, marking the second-highest sale of match day tickets since their return to the top tier in June 2023.
However, according to the disputed document, the club allegedly incurred expenses amounting to Kshs 2,830,000, covering a wide range of items including players’ meals, allowances for management and branch officials, security services, medical services, ticket printing, media facilitation, and public address systems.
The document further claimed that Shabana ultimately banked just Kshs 357,500 from the fixture, figures that sparked widespread outrage among supporters and prompted calls for accountability.
What raised eyebrows was the allocation of hundreds of thousands to the secretary general and the club chairman, as well as additional funds earmarked for media, stadium cleaning, and grass cutting.
In a strongly worded official statement, the club categorically denied the authenticity of the document.
“It has come to our attention that a fabricated document is circulating on various social media platforms containing false and misleading information regarding expenditure following the Shabana FC versus Gor Mahia FC match,” the statement read.
Shabana went on to stress that the document did not originate from the club and does not reflect its financial processes.
“We wish to categorically inform the public that this document is false, misleading, and does not originate from Shabana FC,” the club stated.
Addressing concerns around transparency, the Kisii-based outfit reaffirmed its long-standing practice of publicly declaring matchday revenues and expenditures through official channels.
“In the interest of clarity and transparency, Shabana FC has consistently declared its revenues and expenditures for every match,” the statement noted, adding that all operational costs are financed through legitimate and openly disclosed income streams.
The club further clarified the financial obligations relating to the playing unit, confirming that all allowances had been fully settled.
“Regarding the match in question, the club paid a total cumulative winning and draw allowance of Kshs 839,000, with an additional top-up of Kshs 169,000, bringing the total to Kshs 1.08 million,” the statement added.
