The stage is set for the final rounds of FKF Division 2 promotion mini league with winners getting an automatic ticket to the third tier.
Gems Cambridge will on Sunday host this year's edition of Football Kenya Federation Division 2 Eastern Zone promotion playoff with two teams jostling for the coveted FKF Division One slot.
A total of four teams who emerged top in their respective fourth tier zone will battle out for the third-tier chance. Shofco FC, Kirinyaga Stars, Spitfire and Kabati Youth all qualified from Zone A, B, C and D respectively.
However, following a complaint lodged by Zone B runners up Samwest Blackboots FC over Kirinyaga Stars for using ineligible player during their promotion quest, the match pitting Kirinyaga Stars and Kabati Youth was postponed indefinitely awaiting case hearing and determination.
Shofco FC outshined tournament favorites and last year's mini League finalists Green Berets on 79 points against 67 to clinch the Zone A title and a shoot at the elevation.
The once ambitious and vibrant Kasi Kasi FC finished the season on 32 points suffering relegation to the FKF Regional League.
Promotion favorites at the start of the season Githurai All Stars missed out on the mini league as they settled for a third-place finish on 61 points
Spitfire proved too strong for majority of the teams in Zone C as the military men marshalled the league clinching the title on 80 points against 66 collected by second placed Royal Fresh to set up a semifinal against the lethal Shofco.
Winners in the first semifinal will grace FKF Division One Zone A for 2023-2024 campaign and set up a grand finale the following weekend against semifinal two champion.
A record total seven teams were relegated from the third tier with Administration Police, Gor Mahia Youth, Liberty Sports Academy, Balaji EPZ, Buruburu Sports and Vapor Sports facing the dreaded drop to their respective fourth tier Zones.
