This year's Rugby Africa 7s championship, set to be played in April in Kampala, will also act as the qualifiers for the 2022 Rugby 7s World Cup to be held in South Africa from 9-11 September
The men’s national rugby 7s side, Shujaa, will be hoping to book their place in the prestigious 2022 Rugby 7s World Cup when they head to the qualifiers of the tournament that are set to take place in Uganda from 23-24 April 2022.
In an event that will see fourteen teams come together at the 2022 Rugby Africa 7s Championship to fight for the three available slots up for grabs, Shujaa will be hoping to replicate their 2019 heroics in South Africa where they lifted the Africa 7s championship - a victory that guaranteed them a ticket to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Rugby Africa men’s sevens was not held in 2020 and 2021 and the Innocent ‘Namcos’ Simiyu currently coached side go into the World Cup qualifiers as the defending champions.
In a tweet on his personal account, Rugby Africa Vice-President Andrew Owor announced that the 2022 Rugby Africa Men’s Sevens Cup will be hosted in Kampala, Uganda in April.
“Yes! 14 countries will come together to play over 40 games of rugby; only one will be crowned champion. 2022 Rugby Afrique 7s Championship and World Rugby 7s World Cup Qualifiers will be hosted in Kampala, Uganda on 23 - 24 April,” he posted.
