Posta Rangers extended their fine run after downing Kariobangi Sharks
Week 5 of the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) concluded over the weekend, but not without a number of highlights.
The week witnessed two coaches shown the door as the pressure for results mounted.
Police FC, who despite splashing out in the transfer window had failed to pick a win in their opening four fixtures, dismissed coach Francis Baraza, replacing him with Zdravko Logarusic.
Sofapaka, after suffering their fourth straight loss, has reportedly fired Burundian coach Francis Haringingo Christian.
Meanwhile, Muhoroni Youth, just like Police FC, bagged their first win of the season, after edging our strugglers Ulinzi Stars FC 1-0 at Muhoroni Stadium on Friday.
However, AFC Leopards, the 12-time Kenyan champions, will have to wait longer for their first victory after Shabana FC rallied from a goal down to force them to a 1-1 draw at Ulinzi Sports Complex, Langata on Sunday.
Loga is back!
Croatian coach Zdravko Logarusic is back in the FKFPL seven years after he dumped AFC Leopards through a text message.
The former Gor Mahia and Simba SC coach was on Friday unveiled as the new coach of Police FC taking over from injured Baraza.
In his first game in charge, Logarusic, who has also coached in Zambia, Sudan and Zimbabwe, guided the law enforcers to their first win of the season against Bidco United.
Known for his exciting interviews, Logarusic's return was met with a lot of enthusiasm.
Give Leopards and Shabana fans their flowers
It was a sight to behold as fans of AFC Leopards and Shabana FC thronged the Ulinzi Sports Complex for their Sunday game.
Every space at the newly refurbished facility was occupied by the two sets of fans who sang and danced, creating a wonderful atmosphere for a game of football.
Despite the game ending in a 1-1 draw, the fixture lived up to the hype.
Posta Rangers on a roll
Posta continued with their splendid start to the season with a 1-0 win over Kariobangi Sharks.
The coach John Kamau side has recorded four wins and a draw in five games and are comfortably perched at the top of the table with 13 points - four points clear of second placed Gor.
It may still be early in the day, but the mailmen seem to be enjoying themselves and getting results while at it.
Elsewhere
In general, it was a great week for football in the country as the Harambee Starlets beat Cameroon's Indomitable Lionesses on penalties to proceed in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Starlets lost the first leg in Yaounde 1-0, but managed to level the aggregate score in the second leg played at Nyayo Stadium on Tuesday and send the match into penalties.
A day later on Wednesday, the EA Pamoja bid which brings together Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania was awarded the hosting rights for the AFCON 2027.
