Mfalme now move into the final stretch of the season knowing that a return to the country's second tier is tantalisingly close.

Mflame FC took a giant stride towards promotion to the National Super League (NSL) after a commanding 3-0 victory over MMUST FC in an FKF Division One Zone D clash played on Saturday evening at the MMUST Grounds.

The table toppers produced one of their best away performances yet, with striker Payai Arok stealing the headlines after netting a clinical hat-trick that stretched Mfalme's lead at the summit of the table to seven points with only three matches remaining in the campaign.

Knowing the importance of the fixture in the title race, Mfalme started brightly and quickly imposed themselves on the contest. Their dominance in midfield laid the foundation for success, with evergreen midfielder Elvis Muyale dictating play at the centre of the park with an assured performance that controlled the tempo of the game.

Arok opened the scoring midway through the first half after latching onto a well-worked attacking move before calmly finishing past the MMUST goalkeeper. The visitors continued to dictate proceedings and doubled their advantage shortly before the break when Arok was on hand once again to convert from close range.

With MMUST struggling to gain a foothold in the match, Mfalme remained disciplined and dangerous on the counterattack. Arok completed his hat-trick late in the game, capping off an excellent individual display and sealing all three points for the league leaders.

Speaking after the match, Muyale praised his teammates for maintaining focus during a crucial stage of the season.

"We knew this was a must-win match because every point matters at this stage of the campaign," said Muyale. "The players showed great character and discipline from the first minute to the last. Everyone understood the assignment and we executed our game plan very well."

The midfield dynamo also highlighted the team's growing belief as promotion edges closer.

"We've worked hard all season to put ourselves in this position. Nothing has been achieved yet, but these are the kinds of performances that give you confidence. We have three finals left and we must stay humble, keep working and finish the job."

Mfalme's victory was made even sweeter by favourable results elsewhere in Zone D. Second-placed Compel FC were held to a 1-1 draw away to Hillside FC, while third-placed Sigalagala Polytechnic suffered a 3-1 defeat to Rift Valley National Polytechnic.

Those results leave Mfalme FC seven points clear at the top of the standings with only three matches remaining, putting promotion to the National Super League firmly within touching distance.

With momentum on their side and their destiny in their own hands, Mfalme now move into the final stretch of the season knowing that a return to the country's second tier is tantalisingly close.
